Virginia Satir: The Seed Model – Part II is a transcription of Virginia’s last training tapes from the 1986 International Summer Institute in Crested Butte, Colorado. There were 90 participants from around the world, with selected teaching units, including: “To conform and obey costs us our balance,” “Lying is a defense,” “The definition of a person,” The manifestation of the Life Force” and “The attitude toward change.” The Seed Model is taken from “The Teachings of Virginia Satir: The Crested Butte, Colorado Process Community Videotape Series” and available through The Virginia Satir Global Network. It is available in a transcription by Moira Haagen and edited by Steve Bentheim, PH.D., with thanks to the Satir Writers’ Group.
Jane Gerber, M.S.W. is one of our precious “elders” who worked with Virginia as a trainer, colleague and personal friend. At 90 years of age, she offers this fascinating account of her former mentor’s challenges prior to the acceptance of the Satir model, her differences with Gestalt leader Fritz Perls at Esalen Institute and Virginia’s struggles with personal loneliness after divorce. Reflections: The Oral History of Virginia Satir: An Interview with Jane Gerber, M.S.W. is by our indefatigable associate editor, C. Jesse Carlock, PH.D.
Our meditation offering follows Satir’s belief that meditation taps into the deepest part of ourselves and gives us easy access to our resources. We present “Ingredients of Our Internal Process: A Series of Meditations from Virginia Satir” by Carolyn Nesbitt, PH.D., R.Psych. These meditations were reproduced in Virginia Satir’s own voice on CD. The book and CD may be ordered online under "Virginia Satir: Meditations" at The Satir Institute of the Pacific store .
All the best,
Steve Bentheim, PH.D.,
Editor, The Satir Journal
